Tutoring

Changing career has lots of unknowns. For aspiring teachers, that can include what schools and young people are really like. Becoming a tutor will give you direct experience of teaching young people and is one of the best ways to know if teaching is right for you.

Volunteering as a tutor is the ideal way to dip your toes into teaching, and we have partnered with Action Tutoring to make this happen.

You will also make a real impact as a volunteer tutor. School closures during lockdowns hit young people from disadvantaged backgrounds hard. Becoming a tutor with one of our partners means you will be part of the work to help our young people catch up on their lost learning.

Who do we work with?

Now Teach work with Action Tutoring and The Access Project so that you can become a tutor in schools where it matters most.

You can gain experience in teaching while passing on your valuable knowledge to pupils who need it most. This experience is the ideal preparation before training to teach.

How to become a tutor

Step 1

We need to know a bit about you, so first of all complete our network application form.

Our Career Advisors are available to discuss your options in gaining secondary school experience and explain the steps to becoming a volunteer tutor.

STEP 2

Sign up to become a tutor with Action Tutoring of The Access Group:

Action Tutoring

Action Tutoring is a charity supporting pupils to progress academically. It engages volunteers as tutors to provide tailored support in English and maths to help primary and secondary children overcome the obstacles they’re facing.

The commitment is small, just an hour a week for 8-10 weeks and tutoring will now be able to take place both in-person (if social distancing restrictions allow) and via an online platform.

Volunteers do not need any previous experience; the charity provides the required training and tutoring workbooks.

  • Build transferable skills, experience and knowledge through ongoing training and development as part of the role.

No prior teaching or tutoring experience is necessary, The Access Group provide comprehensive training and induction to help you build the confidence to be the best volunteer you can be.
